Taking a cue from how Tim Shorts of Gothridge Manor Podcast makes episodes in his car, I do some philosophizing about attracting players to old school games. I also talk about the difficulties of some of the elders of the RPG community have with the changing world.

Mike you're a gracious guy. I have to admit that I appreciate someone who is willing to give others the benefit of the doubt without being self deprecating at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI think part of the answer might lay in people feeling like they're part of the community. Not above them. Not below them. Just a mutually beneficial member of the community whose voice is valued. No more, no less. Honestly, I think ODD74 is like that and they also give people the benefit of the doubt as a general rule.
You know, on another note, the whole making the podcast while driving thing seemed to work for you. The recording flowed pretty nicely as a continuous stream of thought. I'd go for it again sometime.

DeleteI agree with what you are saying, and I think that we, the forum participants, respect the board and Marv's wishes enough that we work hard to keep it civil and on-topic. That requires some give and take, and the folks that stay are the ones who can adapt to that.

I listened tot his at work on Christmas eve eve and I really appreciate the charitabke message at this time of year! As the commentator above states, you are indeed a gracious individual.
ReplyDeleteJoining the dots between this podcast and your twitter thread, I wonder if something can be done to bridge the gap between the new and older generations. With Zinequest coming up, it occurred to me that a zine of "war stories" from "back in the day" would be very popular, and proceeds could go towards backing zines by younger voices - particularly women, people of colour, and members of the LGBT community. Just a thought!
